Memory

Measured in Megabytes or MB, you might see GB this means Gigabyte or 1024 Megabytes

Memory is often over looked, as people mainly look at the processor speed, this can be a fatal error. As you computer runs out of memory it will have to use "virtual memory" (some of your storage space as memory) accessing a hard disk is very slow compared to a memory chip, so the less memory you have the more virtual memory your computer will use, hence it will be slower.

Types? - The Industry standard is DDR3 or the slightly older DDR2, With its forerunner DDR. Very old computers use SDRAM

Dual channel? - This is a feature allowing the computer to talk to two memory chips or slices at once, this parallel access of memory is a lot faster for the computer. However memory has to be added in matched pairs of memory. i.e. two chips of the same size and type.

Speeds? - Measured in MHz the faster (the Higher the number) the better it will be.

Amounts? Running a modern computer on XP
